Taking Time for...Friends!

I had a fabulous visit on Sunday with my friend Robin and her fiancé, Sam, as they move cross-country from Connecticut to California with nothing more than the clothes on their back... well, the clothes and a few other basic items that fit in their car, anyway.

We spent the day at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, where we met a decade ago, discovering that these days it is more about the people we knew and the memories we cherish than the actual festival itself. I felt a bit like the whip-cracking tour guide, harrying Robin to cut off conversations with folks she and I both haven't seen in years in order to make it to a particular area at a particular time for some show that she wanted to be certain not to miss, but she claims to have appreciated that -- I'm not sure if I believe her or not. We did manage to fit in a great conversation about our goals and aspoirations in between, and over a pot of tea before they headed back to another friend's house to stay before continuing on.

Thinking about their trip, I began to think about whether or not I could do the same -- getting rid of everything I own that didn't fit into my car? Granted, there is only one of me, and my new car is bigger than Robin's Echo, but I still don't think I could do it. However, I think that I will have to begin looking at my belongings as if I were going to do so, or as if I had to pay to ship it to a destination in Europe...

Happy travels, Robin!
