I was once an early riser, waking up by 6 a.m. every day no matter what. This has been a lifelong "affliction" — many people I know are quite astonished to discover that I am cheerful, even before 5, if I had to get up that early, almost every morning.
I know that I really need to get back into the habit, but it is so hard, once you've fallen off the wagon! A friend of mine once told me about a site for a motivational speaker, and when I was looking for some advice on how to figure out my 'life's purpose' (no, I haven't figured it out yet), I ran across the name again, and looked through some of this gentleman's blog entries. Some of them are a little too 'new age' for me, but I found a great post on how to develop a habit, which I am going to try to follow.
The basic point of it is to make an agreement with yourself to just do something every day for 30 days. Then you can decide if you want to keep it up, but chances are, it will have become a habit! I can think of a number of things this could apply to, but I am going to start with getting up out of bed at 6 a.m., eating more healthy (how often have I said this?), and parking further away at work.
The best part of this will be that I will have plenty of time to make a pot of tea each morning, which will reward me in cash in my pocket. Did you know I have a bad Starbucks addiction? I still don't drink coffee, but Chai is another story. In fact, I probably spend enough money at Starbucks in a month to equal my monthly car insurance payment, at least. That is enough to buy a new pair of shoes at full price, 12 paperback books at full price, or 1/4-1/2 of a plane ticket somewhere. What am I doing at Starbucks???

Habits are hard to break, or make!

You know how Justin and I broke our coffee shop addiction? We just started using our espresso maker. Granted, you don't need the espresso part of that, but the milk steamer is what you are after. I guess it is like you said - it is just a habit now. I used to think getting out the machine, warming it up, waiting, etc, was just too much work, but now I make one every morning. We also make fresh chai lattes - so much better than the concentrated muck you get at coffee shops. Perhaps one will show up for Christmas? Hum? :)
